Howard County is a place in the state of Indiana with a county seat at Kokomo and in addition to this it is one of the central most of the 92 counties in the state. The county is also part of the Metropolitan statistical Area which includes Tipton County as well as Howard. The county was founded in the year 1844 and it was actually known as Richardville Co. when it was first founded. This was to honor a man by the name of Jean Richardville who was the acting chief of Miami in our nations history. The name was changed to Howard County because of the general by the name of Tilghman Howard who past away in 1844. Howard was a US representative from the state of Indiana when he died. In 2004 there were about 85,000 people who resided in this part of Indiana but since then the population has risen. The population density of the county was about 300 people per sq. mile in addition to this.

One of the most important aspects about this part of Indiana is that its county seat of Kokomo is seen as the birthplace of the American automobile. In fact the infamous Elwood Haynes had a museum dedicated to his honor in this city that is seen as a major landmark today in Indiana today. In the history of Howard County the gas boom is one of the things that changed its dynamic in the days of Elwood Haynes. In addition to being seen as the father of the automobile he was also seen as the father of natural gas during his time. This is because at the time that Haynes moved to Kokomo the county that it is located in was recognized as containing the largest natural gas well in the state. During this time the gas reserves here turned the county into an industrial center seemingly overnight.
