One of the keys to improving the quality of life in any community is a growing economy. But for a community to be vibrant, it must have a viable economic development plan that is managed and executed by people who know business.
In Kokomo and Howard County, there is a private, not-for-profit economic development agency that is doing just that. The Kokomo Howard County Development Corporation (KHDC) is dedicated to building the county's tax base by bringing strong, new and expanding companies to Kokomo and Howard County and helping those already here remain healthy and growing.
The KHDC raises the standard of living by expanding the count's tax base and creating new and better paying jobs. From site selection through financing options and employment training, the KHDC is a one-stop shop for economic development. Our team of economic development professionals assist new and expanding businesses with employment incentives, market research and sources for technology assistance. The staff works with commercial real estate brokers, developers, site selection firms and our regional and statewide economic development agencies to find the most advantageous and cost-effective locations for corporate attractions and expansions.
One of the key elements to the KHDC's strategic economic development plan has been the emergence of the Inventrek Technology Park, a high-tech business incubator that helps new technology-driven companies in kokomo and Howard County realize their full potiential. Inventrek focuses on long-term economic growth by creating new high-tech companies and supporting the development of new technologies for existing companies.
The economic development strategic plan was created, with input from stakeholders in the community, to map out the specific action strategies in the areas of job retention and expansion, economic diversification, quality of life and image enhancement.
KHDC is aggressively implementing the approved plan in a combined effort with Kokomo and Howard County goverments, community, organizations and residents in order to make our community a better place to live with ever increasing economic opportunity.
