About Kokomo Sites & Places

The city of Kokomo is a wonderful city in Indiana that is filled with historical sites and landmarks. Some of the Kokomo sites that are around the city include the Vermont Covered Bridge which is located about 5 miles east of the center of the city. The bridge has survived many floods as well as an arson attempt but it is still standing making it one of the Kokomo landmarks that has withstood the test of time and damage. In the year 1957 this bridge was actually caused to flood through the erection of the Kokomo Reservoir. The bridge has been preserved because of the efforts of the late man by the name of M. White who was the president of Howard County Historical Society. Through his efforts the bridge was moved to one of the beautiful parks in the city.

In addition to this there are other Kokomo landmarks as well. Another one of these sites is the Elwood Haynes Museum which was dedicated to a man of the same name who was born in 1857 in Portland. This man was considered a leader in the realm of Natural Gas and he moved to this city in 1893 and it was then that he completed his plans for the first car therefore the museum is one of the Kokomo sites that is dedicated to preserving his legacy.

One of the other historical Kokomo Landmarks is found with the Civil War cannon that is located in this city. The cannon has been restored to its original glory and now stands as a symbol of the honor of veterans that fought in this city. If you ever get the chance to visit this city then these three Kokomo landmarks may be some that you might want to see for yourself as they represent the city’s rich historical background.
